Joeris General Contractors endow
two new construction scholarships

A generous donation from Joeris General Contractors, Ltd. of San Antonio, Texas endowed two new scholarships in the Department of Construction Science at Texas A&M University. The Leo S. Joeris Endowed Scholarship and the Joeris General Contractors Endowed Scholarship were created through the company’s gift of $40,000. The endowments will be used to provide one or more scholarships to full-time students in good standing that are pursuing a construction science degree.

“These scholarships will be a permanent source of support for each new generation of construction leadership graduating from Texas A&M University,” said Joe Horlen, head of the department.

Joeris has been a long-time supporter of the construction science department, regularly recruiting and hiring Texas A&M graduates and employing several interns each semester. The company currently employs more than 20 Aggies as project managers, estimators and superintendents.

Company president, Gary Joeris, said he has always held to the philosophy that the company would hire the right people when they came along, regardless of whether a position was open.

“We are constantly looking for and recruiting the best and the brightest and A&M has always produced well-educated and highly prepared professionals,” said Joeris, who endowed one of the two scholarships to honor his late father and company founder, Leo S. Joeris. “We hope these scholarships will provide an opportunity for students to further their pursuit of construction careers.”
