11 College of Architecture students
earn Student Research Week honors

 

Eleven students from the College of Architecture were recognized for top-notch research projects during the 13th annual Student Research Week at Texas A&M.

Any graduate or undergraduate student who is the primary author of a research project, class paper or project was eligible to be considered for the contest's oral or poster categories.

The competition and awards ceremonies took place March 23-26 in Rudder Tower.

Judges recognized four College of Architecture students' research projects as first place winners in their respective taxonomies:

  • Vanita Negandhi, a Master of Urban Planning student from Ahmedabad, India, Studies of Uses or Designs of Places;
  • Courtney Rice, a senior environmental design major from Lufkin, Texas, Studies of Uses or Designs of Places;
  • Grace Koy, a senior environmental design major from Sealy, Texas, Ecology/Conservation, and
  • Alexandria Norman, a senior urban and regional science major from Arlington, Texas, Governmental Studies/Political Sciences.

Winning second place honors in their respective taxonomies were:
 

  • Duygu Albostan, a Ph.D. architecture student from Ankara, Turkey, Studies of Uses or Designs of Places;
  • Ashley McGarity, a senior environmental design major from Victoria, Texas, Studies of Uses or Designs of Places;
  • Michael Bunch, a Ph.D. in architecture student from Houston, Ecology/Conservation;
  • Aatmaja Desai, a Master of Urban Planning student from Ahmedabad, India, Active Living/Public Health;
  • Dayna Finley, a senior environmental design major from College Station, People, Places, & Cultures;
  • Patrick Hurst, who earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree in December 2009, of Flower Mound, Texas, Literature/Art/Music Studies, and
  • Jee Young Lee, a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Science student from Seoul, South Korea, People, Places, & Cultures.

Desai, Finley, Koy, Lee, Negandhi, Norman and Rice were also recognized as winners of their particular presentation sessions.

Michael Bunch and Vanita Negandhi received Interdisciplinary Research ribbons. The designation is given to research with outcomes that evaluators believe make significant academic or practical contributions in more than one field of study.

Grace Koy's project received Environmental Health and Safety Department Safety recognition, a designation recognizing research efforts that judges believe contribute to and/or value the role and importance of safety at Texas A&M University.
