Cameras flashed and hugs abounded as relatives and well wishers from near and far gathered Friday, May 14 to honor the Spring 2010 graduates from Texas A&M's College of Architecture.
Clad in academic regalia, graduating masters and doctoral students and undergraduates earning degrees with honors joined faculty leaders in the Langford Architecture Center’s Preston Geren Auditorium for the college's Graduation Honors and Recognition Ceremony, which was held prior to the university's Spring 2010 commencement at Reed Area.
Three students earned doctoral degrees from the college.
Jun Hyun Kim earned a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Sciences. Kim's dissertation was "The Role of Landscape Spatial Patterns on Childhood Obesity and Quality of Life: A Study of Hispanic Children in Inner-City Neighborhoods."
Laura Prestwood earned a Ph.D. in Architecture. Her dissertation was "Architectural Design Factors of Domestic Violence Shelters that Affect Outcomes for Female Survivors of Domestic Violence: A Naturalistic Inquiry to Establish Grounded Theory for Future Research."
Chan Yong Sung earned a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Sciences. Sung's dissertation was "Hydrologic and Ecological Effects of Watershed Urbanization: Implication for Watershed Management in Hillslope Regions."
This spring, the College of Architecture awarded 95 masters degrees as follows:Also, during the Texas A&M commencement in Reed Arena, Rodney Hill, professor of architecture, received the Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence Award from Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin.
Texas A&M’s commencement events were preceded by a May 13 convocation in Reed Arena featuring Gen. David Petraeus, head of the U.S. Central Command.
