A research paper written by Samira Pasha, a doctoral student in architecture at Texas A&M, won first place in the student paper division at the Environmental Design Research Association's annual conference in Washington D.C. June 1-6.
Pasha said her paper, "Accessibility Assessment of Four Hospital Gardens in Texas," is the first phase of her dissertation.
"It's a multi-method study on the usability of garden spaces in pediatric hospitals," said Pasha. "Interviews, space syntax analysis and environment evaluation were used to evaluate accessibility and design characteristics at four gardens in two children's hospitals in Texas."
Space syntax analysis consists of utilizing a set of theories and techniques to simulate the likely social effects of designs.
