Former Vizzer awarded for
animation work in ‘WALL•E’

Keith Klohn, a former visualization student at Texas A&M’s College of Architecture, and a team of animators from Pixar were recognized at the 7th Annual Visual Effects Society Awards for their work in the animated feature film, “WALL•E.”

Klohn and three other Pixar animators were named winners in the Outstanding Effects Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture category at the VES Awards, held Feb. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

“This year’s recipients exemplify true excellence in the field of visual and special effects,” said Eric Roth, VES executive director. “On behalf of the VES board of directors, I congratulate all of this year’s nominees on their incredible work.”

Klohn’s contribution to “WALL•E” was just the latest in his animation career, which also includes “Ice Age,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles,” and “Cars.”

Two other former vizzers, Craig Hammack and John Walker, received VES nominations for their work in 2008.

Craig Hammack, with team members for Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), snared two nominations for their work on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” — one for Best Visual Effect of the Year for the valley destruction scene, and the other for Outstanding Models and Miniatures.

John Walker and three ILM collaborators were nominated in the Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Motion Picture category for their work in the film “Iron Man.”

The VES is a professional, honorary society dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of visual effects and upholding the highest uniform standards and procedures for the visual effects profession.
