Shelley E. Potter, who received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Texas A&M’s College of Architecture in 1978, continues her tradition of service as chairwoman for The Association of Former Students association’s board of directors in 2009.

Potter, a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, is a landscape architect with Jeff Potter Architects in Longview.

After graduating summa cum laude from Texas A&M, she became park planner for the city of Longview in 1981.

Since beginning her landscape architecture practice, she has served on numerous civic boards, including the Longview Planning & Zoning Commission and Smart Growth Task Force.

She has served as president of the Junior League of Longview, president of Longview 2020 Forum, national secretary and vice president of Chi Omega Sorority and as a delegate to the National Panhellenic Conference. Her involvement with the Deep East Texas A&M Club included a term as vice president for fundraising, and she became the club's first woman president in 1995.

She served as the area 30 representative for The Association of Former Students from 1997-2004, and joined its board of directors. She was a member of the association’s Bylaws Task Committee in 2002 and 2003 and participated in the Orange and Maroon Legislative Day in Austin in February 2003.

Potter currently serves on the association’s One Spirit One Vision East Texas Campaign Committee. She and her husband, Jeff '78, reside in Longview.

The Association of Former Students, established in 1879, is the official alumni organization of Texas A&M University. The Association connects the 450,000 members of the worldwide Aggie Network with each other and the university, and provides more than $3.5 million a year in funding for scholarships, awards, activities and enrichment for students, faculty, staff and former students.
