Architecture prof named AIA liasion
to international public health group

College of Architecture professor George J. Mann has been appointed the official liaison from the American Institute of Architects to the International Union of Architects’ Public Health Group.

Mann, AIA, holder of the Ronald L. Skaggs, FAIA and Joseph G. Sprague, FAIA Endowed Chair in Health Facilities Design, has been a member of the Public Health Group since 1974, when he was invited to attend a group meeting in Nairobi, Kenya.

In his 40-plus years of teaching at Texas A&M, Mann has educated a new generation of highly nuanced architects who specialize in designing smart, high-tech health care facilities that nurture patient recovery while facilitating the numerous and ever-changing demands of modern medicine.

The IUAP Public Health Group has established a network of professionals who specialize in building for health care while sharing their knowledge and experience with architects, engineers and consultants, health care managers and providers, health care organizations and governments.

The group’s objective is to foster the existence of efficient, aesthetic, and safe health care buildings and healing environments to contribute to more rapid healing and better patient care while at the same time improving health care professionals’ working conditions and satisfaction.
