Linda Salzar, a Texas A&M Master of Urban Planning (MUP) student, was recently elected as Region III representative for the American Planning Association.
“Linda was the Association of Student Planners treasurer this year and has served in numerous positions,” said Rob Rae, ASP chapter president. “She will do an excellent job and represent A&M and Region III wonderfully.”
The ASP chapter at Texas A&M is affiliated with the American Planning Association.
Salzar will be representing Region III, which consists of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.
According to Elise Bright, professor of urban planning and Texas A&M MUP program coordinator, several members of the Aggie MUP program’s Professional Advisory Council currently serve as officers with the American Planning Association, which works closely with the Association of Student Planners: Bob Hunter ’67 and ‘71, is APA president, Emil Moncivais ’66 and ’71, and Mike McAnelly ’69, are regional representatives; and Lee Battle ’99, is the former national student representative.
“The advisory council urged current MUP students to get one of their own elected to this prestigious national position, and the students jumped on the opportunity,” she said.
Salzar’s election was announced at the APA’s April 2008 national convention in Las Vegas.
Students in Texas A&M’s Association of Student Planners participate in APA conferences, network with professionals and perform community service projects.
The American Planning Association is the planning profession's primary organization, representing nearly 50,000 planners nationwide.
