Rodney Hill, professor of architecture at Texas A&M University, was recently featured in Insite Magazine for his sculpture, “Obelisk of Knowledge,” which was presented to Texas A&M University at Qatar’s major benefactors.
Hill was asked by Mark Weichold, dean and chief executive officer at Texas A&M’s Qatar campus, and Charles Bowman, his predecessor, to create a sculpture depicting the history of Arabic contributions to the world in science, engineering and invention.
He had just a few short months to conceive the piece, assemble a team, and construct it.
The finished product, a 13-foot tall structure, was so well received that Her Highness Sheika Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned thanked Hill with a personal invitation to dinner at her palace with other dignitaries.
