Segner to speak at 2011-12
Faculty Teaching Academy

Bob Segner, a professor of construction science at Texas A&M who has earned numerous honors for outstanding teaching, will be a featured speaker in the university’s 2011-12 Faculty Teaching Academy.

Faculty members will learn how Segner, who earned The Association of Former Students’ University Level Teaching Award in 2007, 1997 and 1985, and other distinguished colleagues approach the profession in a series of interactive and informal sessions sponsored by the Center for Teaching Excellence.

The academy opens Sept. 8 with a panel led by Karan Watson, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, followed by Segner’s Oct. 25 session and four other sessions spaced throughout the academic year.

Segner’s teaching load is often among the highest in the college and department, with 250-400 students each semester, a number that has remained consistent for the past 25 years.

Many of Segner’s former students, including those who nominated him for the 2007 honor, said it was a joy and privilege to be in his classroom; they also cite him as the most influential teacher and mentor on their roads to career success.

In 2006, he was selected as runner-up for Texas A&M’s Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence Award, the university’s highest teaching recognition.

Segner also received the Department of Construction Science’s Outstanding Educator award, selected by the department’s graduating class, in 2002 and 2011.

He specializes in construction management, project delivery systems, construction materials and methods, project management and continuing education of all kinds.
