Kenneth Fowler discussed his three decades in landscape architecture during a public lecture, “Lessons from Practice,” April 6 at the Langford Architecture Center.
Fowler is a principal and founding partner of Rialto Studio in San Antonio where he serves as executive vice president. A practitioner in the Alamo City since 1982, he is currently involved in project design and management of multidisciplinary teams in large-scale public and private projects.
His appearance was part of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning’s Spring 2011 Lecture Series.
Among Fowler’s major projects are Riverlink at the Hotel Valencia in San Antonio, the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center expansion, South Texas Medical Center infrastructure improvements, downtown Houston streetscape improvements and recently completed projects for the Texas A&M University System at its Laredo and Kingsville campuses.
He has designed numerous projects at the San Antonio Zoo, including its new main entrance and exhibits for whooping crane, gibbons and lorikeets.
Before founding Rialto, Fowler completed projects on multiple other college campuses, as well as Sea World of Texas’ early development s and the Pier 1 waterfront development in Galveston.
Fowler is a past-president of the Texas chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and received its Chapter Service Award in 1998. His past work as an educator has led to education-based professional service activities including classroom lectures and participation on multiple ASLA visiting accreditation teams.
