Outstanding alumnus recalls his coverage
of 1994 prison escape on Discovery ID show

Robert Riggs, an outstanding alumnus of Texas A&M’s College of Architecture, appeared on the Discovery ID channel June 28, 2011 to talk about his coverage of an inmate’s escape from the Darrington Unit in Rosharon, Texas in 1994, when he was an award-winning television reporter in Dallas.

Riggs recounted Dennis Hope’s escape on the true-crime show “I (Almost) Got Away With It.” Hope, who was in prison for a series of armed robberies, eluded authorities for more than two months before he was captured in a Tennessee nightclub.

After he was brought back to Texas, Hope granted Riggs an exclusive interview, where he revealed how fitness training in prison gave him the stamina to run to Pearland, approximately 30 miles away, where he stole a truck and began his life on the lam.

Riggs, who appears in a trailer for the show, now heads Blue Sky Productions, which produces videos for online and cable TV distribution.
