Dean Vanegas to lecture, serve as panelist
at community public safety readiness event

Jorge Vanegas, dean of the Texas A&M College of Architecture, will be a speaker and panelist in a public safety readiness conference at Houston's Crowne Plaza Hotel April 25-28.

"Working Together for Readiness," a collaboration of Houston-area governmental organizations, churches, community centers and universities, will highlight best practices, lessons learned and readiness exercises through speakers, panels and hands-on, participant-centered learning experiences.

Conference organizers are looking to engage neighborhoods, suburban and rural communities nationally and internationally with the aim of developing local mitigation plans to reduce the loss of life and property in disasters, especially when there is a lack of medical and safety procedures.

Vanegas will present the case for an evidence-based approach to readiness during his appearance April 26 at noon. He characterizes his holistic, community-based solution as “integrated, transdisciplinary and traninstitutional.”

He will also appear in a panel earlier that day discussing "The Readiness Challenge" with representatives from Houston's Public Health Authority and the superintendent of Harris County's Department of Education.

On April 28, Vanegas will participate in two more panel discussions: A morning session about existing frameworks and solutions for readiness, and the conference's final panel discussing conclusions and paths ahead for readiness.

Registration for the full conference is $300. For more information and a registration form, download this document (246K PDF) at http://charityproductions.us
