Master of Science in Land Development
25th Anniversary Conference & Banquet

The future of the real estate industry and the direction of the graduate program in land development at Texas A&M University will be the focus of a Saturday, March 6 conference and banquet in College Station.

Registration is under way for "Land Development Post Meltdown: The 25th Anniversary Aggie Master of Science in Land Development Conference and Banquet.” The gathering, featuring a host of real estate industry experts and tailored for real estate professionals, will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the MSLD program in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at the Texas A&M College of Architecture.

The conference begins with a light networking lunch at noon Saturday, March 6 in the Langford Architecture Center on the Texas A&M campus and culminates with a barbecue banquet 7:30 – 9 p.m. Between lunch and dinner, conference goers will hear presentations from industry leaders on the future of the real estate market and learn about real estate-related research initiatives at the Texas A&M College of Architecture.

Additional conference sessions will focus on the Aggie MSLD program and show how industry professionals can engage the program and its students. A workshop allowing conference participants an opportunity to help shape the program to meet the evolving needs of the real estate industry is also on tap.

“Please join us for this vital series of events and help us redefine the MSLD program while further enriching your Aggie experience and professional network,” said Geoffrey Booth, MSLD program coordinator and holder of the Youngblood Endowed Professorship in Land Development. “In our 25th Anniversary year, the Master of Science in Land Development program needs to meet the demands of a real estate asset class that is facing some unique challenges. Your input is vital for our complete understanding of those needs.”

In return, Booth said, conference participants will learn how the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University, with its myriad teaching, research and service initiatives, “is well placed to offer a strong network, a significant source of intellectual capital, and an opportunity to give back through adjunct teaching and college development initiatives.”

Highlighting the conference events is a special “Seat of Heat” panel discussion, “Creating Real Estate Value in the Brave New World,” featuring five accomplished graduates of the MSLD program in an engaging discussion moderated by Jorge Vanegas, dean of the Texas A&M College of Architecture.

This unique venue, Booth said, promises an “intelligent, insightful and entertaining discussion between a select panel of industry leaders on a topic that is fundamental to the future of our industry.”

The “Seat of Heat” panelists include: Jonathan H. Brinsden ’91, Urban Land Institute president-elect and CEO of Midway Companies, Houston; Tim Crawford ’96, president and owner of Resurgent Ventures, LLC, Charlotte, North Carolina; Rick Rodriguez ’84, president Magi Real Estate, San Antonio; Mike Land ’84, town manager, Prosper, Texas; and Dan Leverett ’80, vice president-commercial development, The Woodlands Development Company, The Woodlands, Texas.
