Murals made to offset construction
blight will be exhibited at ArtFest

Murals originally created to adorn the perimeter of the Memorial Student Center renovation site will be on display at ArtFest, an annual student art exhibition sponsored by the MSC Visual Arts Committee at Texas A&M.

ArtFest runs April 12 – May 3 at the G. Rollie White Coliseum. An opening reception for the contributing artists is set for 7 p.m. April 14.

Students painted the murals in February for Project Art: MSC, but delays due to various, unforeseen circumstances have kept the murals away from the intended venue, the fences surrounding the MSC construction site, said project coordinator Raechel Schneider, a senior environmental design and psychology double major.

"The tarps will be hung at ArtFest with a poster outlining the history of the project and the contributing artists will be recognized," said Schneider. "We're working to get everything in order to display them around the MSC construction site during the fall 2010 semester."

Project Art: MSC is a collaboration of the Texas A&M Chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, Texas A&M's College of Architecture and Students Serve.
