One year after their solar light pipe design — a system for transporting natural light into the interior of buildings — won the a national sustainability competition sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the student team from the Texas A&M College of Architecture returned to the Washington, D.C. event to showcase their progress on the project.
The EPA’s P3 — People, Prosperity, and the Planet — Program, held April 16–17 on the National Mall, is a unique annual college competition for designing solutions for a sustainable future. The 2011 competition was held in conjunction with the EPA’s 7th Annual National Sustainable Design Expo.
Details on the Aggie’s Phase II P3 entry, “Horizontal Hybrid Solar Light Pipe: An Integrated System of Daylight and Electric Light,” are available on the P3 website.

Adjacent to the Solar Light Pipe team’s entry at the 2011 competition, the Texas A&M College of Architecture hosted an exhibit showcasing the college’s myriad sustainability research and educational initiatives, many of which are detailed in the previously reported stories linked below.
