Former student falls short in bid
for mayor's office in San Angelo

A former student of Texas A&M's College of Architecture narrowly missed qualifying for a runoff election for mayor of San Angelo, Texas

Paul Alexander, who received a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree from Texas A&M in 1991, finished just 529 votes behind the Nov. 3 election's second-place finisher, John David Fields, who will face top vote-getter Alvin New in a Dec. 15 runoff.

"Alexander seemed to be within striking distance of Fields all night but finished third," stated a staff report in the San Angelo Standard-Times Nov. 4.

“I’ve learned volumes,” Alexander told the Standard-Times. “When we do this again, we’ll be way better off.” He added that he and his wife Stephanie said they had fun meeting people during the campaign.
