Former student receives praise
and kudos from online sources

A former student from Texas A&M’s College of Architecture details his role in a Hill Country home’s renovation in a remodeling magazine and received praise for his design aesthetic from an art-loving blogger.

The May 2009 issue of Qualified Remodeler notes how Jon Pankratz, who received a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree in 1976 and a Master of Architecture degree in 1979, reconceived a 19th century stone cottage for clients through his design.

Writing in the May 2009 issue of the magazine, Patrick O’Toole said Pankratz’ design created a modern, green dwelling from the cottage; he and his clients then approved a pool patio and grassy areas that completed and complemented the home.

“Though the owners, Jim and Victoria Brown, did not know exactly what they wanted when they and their architect Jon Pankratz, AIA, retained D-CRAIN Design & Construction, Austin, to conceive a hardscape and landscape plan for the newly remodeled home, they certainly liked what they saw immediately when it was presented,” wrote O’Toole.

“I think the strength of the whole thing is that it can be a very intimate space, sort of hugging the main structures and it can be sort of open at the same time,” Pankratz told O’Toole.

A blogger who goes by the moniker Hill Country House Girl calls Jon Pankratz her favorite architect.

“Jon has developed a style of his own that is both classic and unique,” she wrote; she describes herself as a lover of all things design- and art-related.

Her June 9, 2009 blog about Pankratz, “My Favorite Architect,” is available online at http://hillcountryhouse.blogspot.com/2009/06/my-favorite-architect.html
