Briggs memorialized during
Nov. 3 Silver Taps ceremonies

Bobby Briggs, a freshman environmental design major at Texas A&M who died Sept. 20 in his Aston Hall dorm room, was memorialized during Silver Taps Nov. 3 at the Academic Plaza.

Silver Taps, one of the university's most hallowed traditions, honors those who die while enrolled at the university.

Earlier that day, the College of Architecture hosted Briggs' family for a dinner that was attended by many of his environmental design classmates.

“We cannot express in words the gratitude we have for how you welcomed and accepted Bobby into the architecture community at A&M,” said his parents, David and Patrice Briggs, in a statement directed at his classmates following his death. “Bobby had found the kind of camaraderie and fellowship that he had been looking for his entire life.”

They said the first year environmental design student felt truly included, appreciated and loved during the time he spent at Texas A&M both in and out of the studio. Working at his drafting table, surrounded by his fellow students, they added, will be among the happiest memories of his life.

“Bobby was following his lifelong dream of becoming an architect,” they said. “We hope that you too will follow your dreams, both in your architecture studies and in life. Please remember Bobby and his love of architecture and may it inspire you to live each day to its fullest.”

Erica Quiñones, visiting lecturer of architecture, taught a design studio Briggs was enrolled in.

“He showed a lot of promise and potential,” she said. “He had a very different perspective on some of the assignments, which is a good thing.”
