College to be SWAMPed with films
April 18-19 at Geren Auditorium

The Texas A&M College of Architecture’s Preston Geren Auditorium will be turned into a swamp of sorts 7:30 p.m. April 18 and 19 when the Aggie Screenwriting, Acting, and Movie Production (SWAMP) Club presents SWAMPFest 2, its second-annual film festival.

“We plan to be screening approximately 25 films,” said Bobby Huebel, SWAMP club president. “Audience members can expect to see comedy, drama, suspense, animation, film noir, silent film, and more. The films range in length from less than a minute to about 15 minutes.”

“The first part of the festival, before intermission, will be what we consider ‘family friendly,’” he said. “The films screened after intermission may contain mature themes or references.”

On both nights, the same films will be shown; Huebel expects the fest to last until 9:30 p.m., possibly later. Tickets are available at the door for $3. During a 15-minute intermission, popcorn and drinks will be sold in the lobby.

“At the end of the festival there will be a short Q and A session with directors or cast members who are present,” said Huebel.

All proceeds from SWAMPFest 2 go towards funding the Aggie SWAMP Club.

The Aggie SWAMP Club exists primarily to help members make movies. In addition to regular meetings, the group holds workshops, film screenings and social events related to filmmaking and film appreciation. Club members help each other brainstorm, doctor scripts and act as a film crew during shoots, assisting with camera work, sound, lighting and even acting. They also assist with editing and post production chores.
