Mann, Briscoe attend healthcare
architecture conference in Italy

Two representatives from Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture presented the latest in healthcare design at the 2008 International Union of Architects’ Public Health Group conference in the ancient Italian city of Florence.

George Mann, professor of architecture and holder of the Ronald Skaggs, FAIA and Joseph G. Sprague, FAIA Endowed Chair in Health Facilities Design, and Brian Briscoe, a Master of Architecture candidate, attended the conference at the P. Spadolini Meyer Children’s Hospital in Florence June 22-26.

They presented “Recent Research and Design Projects Undertaken by the ‘Architecture for Health’ Program at Texas A&M” to the more than 125 representatives from countries and universities worldwide who attended the seminar.

Mann was recently appointed as the official representative to the group from the American Institute of Architects; he’s been a member of the IUA/PHG since 1974.

Following the meeting in Florence, which was co-sponsored by the World Health Organization and other Italian health-related organizations, Mann and Briscoe attended the International Union of Architects’ World Congress in Turin.
