The College of Architecture’s Architecture Ranch will be ablaze with light 9 p.m. Friday, April 25 when students in Jill Mulholland’s architecture studios present “Circus of Light.”
Mulholland’s studio light shows have become a popular, much anticipated event at Texas A&M. This semester, the show is moving from its previous venue at the college’s Langford Architecture Center to the Built Environment Teaching and Research Facility, or “Architecture Ranch,” at Texas A&M’s Riverside Campus. Mullholland said this location provides students more room for their projects as well as the option to use the ranch’s digital fabrication, woodworking and metalworking equipment.
Also on display that night at the ranch will be miniature sacred shrines constructed from natural or discarded materials by students in the studio led by Eugene Wagner, visiting assistant professor of architecture.
“In addition to the shrines, students are testing wall samples made from earthen materials, stone, straw bale and others. An inventory of diverse natural building materials has been created by the students and will be on display as well.”
To get to the Architecture Ranch from the main Texas A&M campus take University Dr. west, which becomes FM 60. Exit right from FM 60 onto highway 47. In six miles, a sign on the right indicates the left turn into the Texas A&M University Riverside Campus. Turn left and pass through the gate; the Architecture Ranch is located at Avenue D, building 7007.
