Experts in the field of healthcare architecture will be making regular stops to the Texas A&M University College of Architecture this spring to talk about the latest developments in their field.
The speakers are part of the Spring 2008 Architecture for Health Lecture Series, which is mostly held Wednesdays at noon in Langford A205 (conference room next to the Dean’s Office). The series is sponsored by the college’s Center for Health Systems & Design and the Student Health Environments Association.
Wednesday, Feb. 20
Elizabeth Viets ‘06, an associate with WHR Architects in Houston, will present “Through the Eyes of a Recent A&M Graduate: Healthcare Design in the Real World.” WHR Architects focuses on designing buildings for healthcare, education, science and technology.
Wednesday, Feb. 27
Four speakers will discuss “Designing the new Texas A&M Health Science Center: A Model of Collaboration.” Ed Huckaby, principal of FKP Architects in Houston, and three representatives from EDAW, Inc. in Denver – vice president and principal Russell Butler II, along with landscape architects Michael Pisano and Vaike Haas, will discuss the project. The Texas A&M Health Science Center was created in 1999 through consolidation of a majority of A&M System health-related programs, but planned expansions in the center’s programs have necessitated a need for a move to a new site and a master plan.

Thomas Quigley, principal of the global architecture firm HOK, will present “Innovations in Medical Planning and Design: The Academic Medical Center and Replacement Hospital.”
Friday, March 7
Nunzio De Santis and Marc Budaus of HKS Inc. will discuss their firm’s recent hotel and healthcare projects. HKS is an international architecture firm headquartered in Dallas.

Kirk Hamilton, FAIA, FACHA, presents “Research Informed Design, Safety, and Improved Outcomes.” Hamilton is an associate professor at the Texas A&M Department of Architecture.

Paul Sanders of Broaddus & Associates presents “Project Management and Planning.” His company provides program management and consulting services for design and construction projects.
