Jan. 24 seminars focus on
green building technologies

 

Two public seminars focusing on best practices in residential “green” building technologies will be offered Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Langford Architecture Center on the Texas A&M University Campus in College Station, Texas.

Titled “Green is Mainstream: Building Codes, Energy Efficiency and Best Practices in Green Building,” the seminars will be held in two identical sessions 9 a.m. – noonand 2 ­– 5 p.m. in the Wright Gallery, located on the second floor of the Langford A building.

Both sessions will be presented by José Fernández Solis, associate professor of construction science at Texas A&M, and Fred Bastani, president of the International Polytechnic Institute, Inc., who together have more than 60 years of building experience.

Their presentations will focus on “green” practices in residential construction related to design, construction, insulation, site work, the building envelope and roof, mechanical, and energy efficient systems.

Seminar participants can qualify for three American Institute of Architects health, safety and welfare continuing education units and builders can also earn three continuing education credits.

Solís, a member of the Texas A&M faculty since 2004, is an expert in sustainable construction sustainability, theory, materials and methods and advanced project management. Bastanihas more than than 30 years of experience related to home building technologies, construction and building trades.

In addition to architects and builders, the seminars provide information of particular benefit for subcontractors, municipal building officials, engineers, residential designers, building trades instructors, students, apprentices andconsumers.

The sessions, presented by the Texas A&M Department of Construction Science and the International Polytechnic Institute, are hosted by the State Energy Conservation Office, the Texas A&M University System’s Energy Systems Laboratory and the Texas Association of Builders.
