Art created by students at Texas A&M's College of Architecture headlined this year's ArtFest, an annual juried student art contest.
"Among the Arugula Blossoms," a double self-portrait by senior landscape architecture major Alexander Gonzalez of San Antonio, captured the contest's first-place honors. The acrylic on canvas piece was on exhibit with other ArtFest entries at G. Rollie White Coliseum until May 6.
"I have an arugula patch in my garden right now, which was the inspiration for the setting for this portrait," he said.
Murals created at the Langford Architecture Center to adorn the perimeter of the Memorial Student Center's renovation site were also on display.
Students painted the murals in February for Project Art: MSC, but delays due to various, unforeseen circumstances kept the murals away from the intended venue, said project coordinator Raechel Schneider, a senior environmental design and psychology double major.
The project was a collaboration of the Texas A&M Chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, Texas A&M's College of Architecture and Students Serve.
