Registration is under way for the 26th Annual Master of Science in Land Development Alumni Banquet, an event filled celebration of student achievement slated 6 – 9 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Langford Architecture Center on the Texas A&M campus.
Current and former MSLD students and friends of the program are invited to sign-up online and join program coordinator Geoffrey Booth, the Nicole and Kevin Youngblood Professor in Residential Land Development, as he emcees the night’s festivities:
Also, capping off the evening’s festivities will be an after-dinner screening in the Preston Geren Auditorium of student-made videos selected as winners of the first-ever MSLD Film Awards. The winning films will be chosen by popular vote in an online competition, currently under way, that features six videos focusing on how excellent planning and design creates real estate value for selected properties.
One award will go to the best student video highlighting projects by TBG Partners, an Austin-based landscape architecture and planning firm whose featured projects are Market Street in The Woodlands, the Dallas Design District, and Town Lake Park in Austin.
The second award will be presented for the best video featuring Texas Historical Commission projects: the Lampasas County Courthouse, the University of St. Thomas in Houston, and the Wharton County Courthouse.
Working in teams, students created the videos to accompany written reports detailing how the planning, design, delivery and management of real estate raised property value for these six select Texas projects.
In producing the films, students referenced “Urban Design and the Bottom Line: Optimizing the Return on Perception,” a book written by Dennis Jerke ’78, an outstanding alumnus of the College of Architecture.
In his book, Jerke, a Master of Landscape Architecture graduate, makes an argument for the dividend generated from high-quality, pre-investment design and investigates the benefits and impact of good design upon all facets of an urban area — the community, businesses, employees, the general public, city officials and the developer.
