Texas A&M Theta II chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi
The Texas A&M Theta II chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi, an international construction honor society, has been busy with activities that lead to fulfilling its three main objectives: service in the field of construction, developing good relationships on campus, in industry and with the public, and recognizing outstanding professional individuals in construction.
Six chapter members participated in a Department of Construction Science faculty search committee student task force during the spring 2009 semester.
The department hosted four daylong faculty candidate visits to the campus; during the visits the chapter's student committee hosted lunches, engaging in open dialogue about the program and the candidates.
Task force members were also asked to attend the candidates’ presentation to the committee, and provide feedback from the time spent with the faculty candidates to the search committee, who used it as part of the decision making process.
Also in the spring semester, five chapter members served as student leaders on the Department of Construction Science Banquet Awards steering committee along with faculty and staff. The event welcomed 500 students, faculty and members of the department's Construction Industry Advisory Council, honoring the department's highest achievements in the academic year. The installation of more than 20 new graduate and undergraduate chapter members took place prior to the banquet.
More new members were installed in conjunction with this fall's Construction Industry Advisory Council meeting, where chapter members participated in focus group discussions about COSC programs.
Theta II members are looking forward to April's 2010 Sigma Lambda Chi International Convention in Boston at the Associated Schools of Construction's annual conference. Chapter members will compete in several categories of service to the university and industry.
