Construction students blog about
international law class in Europe

Construction science students studied, saw the sights in Europe and, along with their professors, blogged about their travels during a Summer I International Law class.

The group, wrote student Michael Knapp on June 17, went to see the musical “Wicked” at the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End; he also wrote of the group’s visit to Edinburgh Castle in Scotland.

The castle visit followed a tour of a new freshwater treatment facility under construction and a visit with KBR officials in Scotland, who discussed their company’s business methods and project controls.

“Steve Dart, a process information manager at KBR, discussed engineering and design work processes, and the 3-D modeling program they use,” wrote Kim Carlson, a lecturer in the Department of Construction Science, who led the class with construction science professor Bob Segner. “Paul Close, who is the regional director of procurement, talked about offshore oil platforms,” Carlson continued. “KBR builds a large number of offshore oil platforms, with a large majority of them being in the Caspian Sea right now.”
