For his contributions to Texas A&M, community and family, Ron Skaggs, chairman emeritus of Dallas-based HKS, Inc. and an Outstanding Alumnus of the Texas A&M College of Architecture, was presented the Jimmy Williams Distinguished Service Award by the Dallas A&M Club at the group’s Oct. 14 banquet at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
Elsa Murano, president of Texas A&M, was one of the speakers at the event.
Skaggs, who remains actively involved at HKS, serves as principal in charge of various healthcare projects.
The Jimmy Williams Distinguished Service Award “is the highest award the Dallas A&M Club gives out; it’s not given every year,” said club past president Carl Baggett ’96.
The award is presented to the Dallas area person who has demonstrated commitment to career and family, contributions to the local community, and devotion to Texas A&M University.
Determining who receives the award, said Baggett, “is a long process where we talk to multiple parties in the Dallas area as well as College Station to make sure that this person, while being a big part of Dallas and the state and nation, is someone who’s always been a big supporter of Texas A&M.”
“We couldn’t think of a more honored, better person to get the award than Mr. Skaggs,” said Baggett. “I can tell you that among the many folks I talked to, it became very evident how highly respected he is, both professionally and as a steward of A&M.”
Those supporting Skaggs for he award, Baggett said, all agreed that his extraordinary professional success never hindered his frequent and enduring support for Texas A&M.
“He always took the call and has always done whatever A&M asked,” he said. “We were very excited to honor him with the award and I enjoyed getting to know him better through the whole process.”
