AIA Brazos newsletter eyes partnership between
Texas A&M, Prairie View A&M co-sci programs

Texas A&M's Department of Construction Science collaborations with its counterpart at Prairie View A&M were featured in the July/August 2010 issue of Archivoltum, the newsletter published by AIA Brazos, the Brazos County chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

In the lead story, "The Highway 6 Connection," Bruce Bockhorn '74, director of the construction science program at Prairie View A&M, identified several connections between the two Texas A&M System programs:

  • Two teams with construction science students from both schools competed at the International Builders Show in Las Vegas, as part of a $100,000 grant from the National Association of Home Builders to strengthen PVAMU's residential construction program;
  • Five construction science professors at PVAMU have either completed or are working on advanced degrees from Texas A&M; and
  • George Eustace, senior lecturer of construction science at Texas A&M, recently assisted PVAMU's construction science program during its recent accreditation process.

The Archivoltum article, available online, also notes several other initiatives involving the two programs.

The author, Bockhorn, earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree from Texas A&M in 1974 and a Ph.D. in architecture in 2002.

An article about the NAHB grant to facilitate collaborations between the two construction science programs, is available in the fall 2008 issue of archone.

A story with highlights from the January 2010 competition at the International Builders Show is posted in the Spring 2010 issue of archone.
