Students illustrate essay about
light in Japanese architecture

Art spontaneously appeared at various locations around the Langford Architecture Center in October, created by students in Jill Mulholland’s VIST 205 design studio.

They were asked to create pieces illustrating a sentence in “The Light in Japanese Architecture” by Henry Plummer and make a connection between the piece and where it was installed.

Plummer’s work is a long-form essay, illustrated by full-color photos, that strives to convey how Japanese architects respond to and manipulate light in historical and contemporary works.
