A review of designs by first-year students in the Langford A atrium at Texas A&M was accompanied by studio member Preston Scott, who played a variety of tunes on the atrium's Jesse French grand piano.

In the class, led by Rodney Hill, professor of architecture, students designed residences for Weiling He and Wei Yan, assistant professors of architecture.

"The residences had to be energy-efficient," said Hill, adding that both homes were to be placed on the same lot on an actual site south of College Station.

"It's a Chinese custom that parents sometimes come to visit, sometimes two to three months out of the year," said Hill. "Both homes had to have a barrier-free bedroom and bathroom that could be accessed by a wheelchair or walker."

Scott performed on a piano that was donated to the College of Architecture in 2006 by Bob and Marge Reid, parents of Russ Reid '01 BED.

Prior to its donation to the college, the piano had previously been at the congregation of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bryan, and was refurbished prior to its installation at Langford by donations from college faculty, staff, and students. Professor David Woodcock, a member of the church, helped locate the instrument for the college.
