Student groups from Texas A&M's College of Architecture staffed a booth adorned with banners created by design students at the April 21 campus Earth Day event, which featured games, food and tips about going "green."
Sponsored by the College of Education and Human Development and the Environmental Issues Committee, the event took place next to Harrington Tower.
Representing the college at Earth Day were the American Institute of Architecture Students, the American Society of Landscape Architects, Emerging Green Builders, Student Health Environments Association, and the Postgraduate Built Environment Research Chapter of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building Construction.
Posters adorning the college's booth were created by students in a fourth-year special topics in design class led by Donna Hajash, senior lecturer in visualization.
"I gave them a one-day assignment to create an Earth Day poster focusing on anything they wanted to, it just had to have an Earth Day 2010 theme," said Hajash.
She asked students' designs be in a signpost proportion used for outdoor banners.
"As graphic designers, they're not just designing to sell socks and iPods, etcetera, but they should be using their talents to get the word out about important causes," she said.
