Wei Yan, assistant professor of architecture at Texas A&M, has been elected to a two-year term on the steering committee of the Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture.
Founded in 1981, ACADIA is the oldest academic organization focused on the research and education of computer-aided architectural design.
Since joining the Aggie faculty in 2005, Yan’s research has focused on building information modeling, visualization, and applications of computer vision and computer games in architecture.
He received the Best Paper Prize in the International Conference of Design Computing and Cognition in 2006 for “Geometric, Cognitive, and Behavioral Modeling of Environmental Users," co-written with Y.E. Kalay.
Yan has served as a principal investigator or co-principal investigator for research projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers.
Yan earned a Ph.D. in Architecture in 2005 and a Master of Computer Science degree in 2004 from the University of California-Berkeley, a Master of Architectural Science and Technology degree in 1996 and a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1992 from Tianjin University.
