Nichols gives Texas town
advice on seismic testing

John Nichols, an associate professor of construction science at Texas A&M, weighed in on a seismic testing debate in Flower Mound, Texas.

The community is determining whether to allow Williams, a Houston-based company that gathers and processes natural gas, to perform seismic testing to aid in locating pockets of natural gas.

Chris Roark of the Flower Mound Leader reported on Dec. 4, 2009, that Nichols told the community's town council the town should conduct sample seismic tests to see if and how much damage the tests will do to its roads.

"Nichols said he believes damage will be done, it's only a question of how much," wrote Roark.

Flower Mound is located approximately 10 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
