Sam Brody, former acting director of Texas A&M's Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, talks about the center's research findings and its history during an April 2009 appearance on a homeland security video series.

"A lot of our research is showing that if we take note of where we're building, rather than sprawling out across the landscape, if we focus on areas that are the least vulnerable, and we install mitigation policies such as education, relocation and protecting wetlands, we can have a significant reduction in the amount of damage we've seen from storm events," said Brody, recently promoted to professor of urban planning and director of the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores at Texas A&M University at Galveston.

Brody's appearance took place on "Bring it Home," hosted by Dave McIntyre, director of Texas A&M's Integrative Center for Homeland Security. The show offers in depth and diverse perspectives on homeland security issues from leading experts.
