Visualization lab graduate student Jon Reisch is part of a team of animators nominated for a Visual Effects Society award for their work in the movie “Ratatouille.”
Reisch and three other collaborators garnered a nomination for “Outstanding Effects in an Animated Motion Picture” for designing and animating the food, which played a central role in the blockbuster Pixar film. They are competing against animators nominated for their work in “Beowulf,” Shrek the Third ” and “Surf’s Up.”
Reisch is working on his Master of Science in Visualization Sciences degree from the College of Architecture’s new Department of Visualization.
Also for their work in “Ratatouille,” Reisch and his Pixar colleague, former visualization student Gary Bruins, will be competing as nominees for an International Animated Film Society’s Annie Award in the Individual Achievement, Animated Effects category.
The Annie Awards are scheduled to take place Feb. 8 at Royce Hall on the University of California-Los Angeles campus.

Baer was on campus last fall recruiting current visualization students. Dreamworks Animation created the “Shrek” series, as well as other recent animated features such as “Bee Movie.”
