Former department head’s photos
on display in San Antonio exhibit

Photography by Julius Gribou, former head of the Department of Architecture at Texas A&M University, will be on display at the gallery-cafe, At the Radius, at 106 Auditorium Circle in downtown San Antonio through Nov. 10.

Gribou, who headed the department from 1992 – 2000, is now executive vice provost at the University of Texas – San Antonio.

His work will be displayed with two other photographers’ photos in the Joan Grona Gallery in The Radius, 106 Auditorium Circle, in downtown San Antonio.

“His distinct perspective explores the lines and surfaces that define the buildings he photographs,” said Arturo Almeida, curator of UTSA’s art collection.

“In an image titled ‘Beak,’” said Almeida, “he invites the viewer to consider anew Santiago Calatrava’s Tenerife Concert Hall by photographing the mere tip of the massive concrete wave that swoops over the building.”

Before his time at Texas A&M, Gribou earned a master's degree in architecture from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's degree in design from the University of Florida. As a Fulbright scholar in 1991, he researched Poland’s historic preservation systems.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday through Sept. 26 and 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Friday, from Sept. 29 to Oct. 31.
