College women help build
home for mother, family

Female faculty, students and staff from the architecture and construction science programs at Texas A&M recently joined volunteers building a home for a Bryan mother and her family as part of the Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity’s 2011 “Circle of Women Build.”

Mardelle Shepley, professor of architecture, recruited fellow College of Architecture faculty members Susan Rodiek, associate professor of architecture, and Zofia Rybkowski, assistant professor of construction science, for the Sept. 10, 2011 construction effort.

She also recruited students Adeleh Nejati, Lu Gan, Lucy Bai, Yilin Song, Nidhi Setya, Janice Freeman, Zhuting Mao, Aditi Kulkarni, Kelsey O'Dair, Roxanne Gutierrez and Shelley Smith, an administrative coordinator in the Department of Construction Science.

Donors and building volunteers worked side by side with the home’s owner to drive nails, install roofing and sheetrock; materials from the house were provided by women’s organizations, businesses owned by women or individuals.
