Future student’s art sells for $145K
at Houston livestock show auction

Heather White, a junior at Dickinson High School, is hoping to study architecture at Texas A&M’s College of Architecture with the help of $15,000 she received from the sale of her drawing, “Serenity,” which won reserve grand champion in the school art category in the 2009 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The piece, a drawing of herself and her horse, Misty, netted $145,000 at the show’s auction.

“White doesn’t get to keep the entire $145,000,” reported T. J. Aulds in the March 17 issue of the Galveston Daily News. “Instead, she’ll get $15,000 to go toward her college tuition at Texas A&M University, where she plans to study architecture.” The rest goes into the livestock show’s general scholarship fund.

A thumbnail-sized image of White’s drawing can be viewed on the livestock show website at www.hlsr.com.
