FAVELADOS — In Registro, about 189 kilometers
southeast of São Paolo, the A&M team toured floodplain areas along
the Ribeira do Iguape River. There they found the residents most
at risk of flooding were poor squatters, favelados, who,
often dependent on the river for survival, had built settlements
on its flood-prone banks. |
